Evening Gowns at The Strand Arcade
Last night was the Final Year Ultimo TAFE Student, Ball Gown Parade at the Strand Arcade in Sydney. As I photographed one of the students ranges about ten days ago I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to this Gala event. As one would expect the fashion students had pulled out all stops in creating some truly dazzling evening gowns.
However, when wearing my 'Street Photography' hat its not the Gowns that I am there to shoot its the people in attendance. I spotted these two with a couple of their friends early on in the night and was managed to get off a shot of them in Pitt Street during a ciggie break after the show, before the final announcements. As it turned out the both work for a well known Sydney designer with the lovely lady on the right having completed the same design course only two years ago.

Two of the models from the parade. Agh; it seems runway make-up is a lot heavier than the make-up we use for shooting fashion! I have had the pleasure of photographing Sarah on the left several times in the studio & on location.

There's no point going for the shots someone else will get. Here's a top down view of the runway running right down the center of the Strand Arcade; my 'brother' photographers are forming a tight posse in the photographers pit at the bottom of the shot.

Thanks to the Students, Teachers and Sponsers for putting on a great show

Wrist action

A door left open
A woman walking by
A drop in the water
A look in the eye
A phone on the table
A man on your side
Oh, someone that you think that you can trust
Is just
Another way to die
Silver, leather, studs, chains... An attempt to recreate Kate Lanphear's accessory look. This shot was inspired by the one on the Jak&Jil Blog: http://jakandjil.com/blog/?p=244
Only "my photographer" didn't feel like experimenting that much... So I had to be satisfied with this picture. :)

Visual Seduction
What makes Olivar's photos so characteristic and cinematic is the fact that his pictures are compressed into a single narration whose plot we have to put together in our own imagination.
Olivar masters the art of allusion, the visual seduction and tension building perfectly. Looking at his pictures, we can't help but ask ourselves if his female characters are representing lonely, urban women lusting for love.
Desire, drama and passion are predominant but simultaneously the theatrically staged models seem absent, lonely and even melancholic.

Stylish students
Alejandro
Age: 20, English language and literature student at the University of Madrid
Alejandro, whose origin is Venezuela, was striking a very relaxed pose while reading a book and waiting for his girlfriend : ) We noticed immediately his great hair, which upgrades the whole outfit. We really like the ensemble of the decent colours.
Age: 20, English language and literature & geography student
We like Samy's laid-back-look. The outfit looks very comfy yet elegant because of the combination of light grey and black. The jacket is totally in line with the shoes, which is from Pomp it up. All in all a cozy look, which everyone embraces~
Forever and a day

As we were waiting for the break to take some pictures of other students we had time to do a little photo shooting in front of the main entrance of our university.

Trenchcoat: Vero Moda
Cardigan: Zara
Shirt: Tally Weijl (yes, sometimes they carry decent stuff, too... :) )
Fringe Boots: Bershka
Bag: Friis & Company
Necklace: Claire's
Ring: from a road market in Turkey

My beloved Starbucks tumbler. Pink is not really my colour but I just couldn't resist... Those balloons remind me of the song "Love is in the air"... :)

You would know

But if I wanted silence, I would whisper
And if I wanted loneliness, I’d choose to go
And if I liked rejection, I’d audition
And if I didn’t love you, You would know

All I see are subtle shades of grey

There is no black, no white
no stark line drawn upon the ground.
No goodness, no evil, only hope.
I find no hate, no love, no perfect kiss
in my version of the world.
All I see is maybes, and the potential of tomorrow.

Life has no perfection-
but no flaws as well.
I dream of subtle shades of grey.

Knee high inspiration

Alexa Chung, former model who's now a tv presenter, is one of the most stylish girls from London. I really like her personal style a lot and when it comes to wearing knee high socks, she always gets it right...

Sometimes the world IS kind to little things
She has a collection of embroidered shirts that look rather conservative at a first glance, but taking a closer look you can see that there is a dirty message hidden. :)
In particular I love her accessories and want to share some of my favourites with you...

Little Butterfly: What better way than to keep your loved one close to your heart in this sweet locket? Looking at this beautiful necklace makes me miss MINE that much more...

Love à la Paris: That's just how french love is... A Paris lovers dream of a small detailed sterling silver Eiffel Tower with a french laced bow. And how adorable is that tiny blueberry tart with whipped cream? Mhhhmm, tasty... :)

Wish you were here: Another way to say "I love you". This is my favourite from the entire collection. I don't know why, there's something about postcards and letters that I love... The swallow with the tiny milky blue glass forget-me-not flower is cute, too.

Erin Wasson for Vero Moda

Although Vero Moda had worked with many famous models like Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen and Helena Christensen before, I was surprised to see Erin Wasson as their new face. Maybe I just didn't expect her in these clothes as they are totally different from what we have seen her in lately. The pics above are from the casual and comfy, yet stylish winter 08/09 collection and the one below from the Christmas collection.

My favourite piece is the fringe dress from the Vero Moda Magazine cover. I think in the pics from the Christmas collection Erin looks a bit more like herself. Maybe it's just because of the colour black and the heavy chain necklaces... What do you think?

Café Bar annabelle

annabelle is one of the most known magazines in Switzerland which covers current subjects in fashion, lifestyle, travel, living etc. In October 2006 they opened a lovely Café Bar in Zurich with a unique interior. The ornate wallpaper, one of a kind mirrors, editorial photos on the walls, lamps, chairs and plush pillows... Everything is designed to create an amazing girly atmosphere.
It's a place where you can have a coffee and read the latest issue of annabelle, try the delicious bagels and antipasti or just have a great time with your (girl)friends.
We enjoy being there...
